জেরান্ড, পার্টিসিপল আর ইনফিনিটিভ ভার্ব থেকে তৈরি, কিন্তু কাজ করে নাউন, অ্যাডজেক্টিভ বা অ্যাডভার্ব হিসেবে। জেরান্ড (-ing) নাউনের কাজ করে, পার্টিসিপল (-ing বা -ed) অ্যাডজেক্টিভের কাজ করে, আর ইনফিনিটিভ হয় to + base বা to ছাড়া (zero infinitive)।
